3 Food Trends for Autumn 2013

1) Sambos 2.0…

First of the food trends: The humble sambo is in for a big reboot this autumn, as leafy weather boosts our appetites for the pulled pork, roast lamb and roast chickens being transformed by the likes of Poule Bonne Femme, Dublin City Food and The Fumbally. I’m hungry already.

2) Food on film…

Appetites for foodie films will grow. As connection speeds increase, expect to see more foodies using film to showcase their wares. McKenna’s guides, the Gourmet Greenway and Tourism Ireland’s ‘Flavours of Ireland’ are just the entrées… get ready for the mains.

3) Mayo with that?

For decades, ‘Mayo’ conjured up images of white stuff in a jar. Things are changing, as the county not only shapes up for an All Ireland football final, but looks like one of the most energetic in food to boot. The Westport Food Festival, local heroes ranging from Kelly’s butchers to the Mulranny Park Hotel and the Gourmet Greenway have all given Mayo its mojo. Watch this space.
