Duvet Day: Ballynahinch Castle

9th December 2013
Pól Ó Conghaile

Ballynahinch has just been voted No.1 Irish Hotel by readers of Conde Nast Traveller, fending off the likes of the Merrion, Shelbourne and Hayfield Manor to nab top spot.

It beats them when it comes to prices too, with two nights’ B&B plus one dinner currently on offer from €170pps (midweek) or €195pp (weekend).

Ballynahinch also has a Duvet Day offer including room service dinner, chocolates, a scented candle, bath oils and a movie of your choice with popcorn from €125pp.

I reviewed the hotel here. highlights of my stay were the history (Ballynahinch was the home of Richard ‘Humanity Dick’ Martin), the roaring fires, world-class fly-fishing and, of course, the location (Connemara… ‘nuff said). Its tweedy fustiness won’t be to everyone’s taste (there’s no pool or spa, either), but I’ve yet to meet the person with a bad word to say about the place.
