Irish travellers enjoy one of the world’s Top 10 annual holiday budgets.
That’s according to TripAdvisor’s latest TripBarometer survey. Annual vacation spends of $6,720pp (almost €4,000) ranked eighth highest in the world – above France, Italy, Israel, Brazil, Malaysia and several other much larger countries (see table below).
The bi-annual study, conducted by Ipsos on behalf ofTripAdvisor, highlights global travel trends by sampling over 60,000 travellers and hoteliers around the world.
Drilling into the data, I’ve found some interesting stats from the survey’s 468 Irish respondents.
55% said they booked 3-6 months ahead of travel, for example. 80% said their holiday choices were influenced by TripAdvisor. I find it strange, however, that just 13% said their holidays were determined by the availability of a good deal or special offer. That certainly wouldn’t tally with my experience.
In its executive summary, the TripBarometer observes:
“In the past year travelers have mainly taken staycations, however further flung trips are on the agenda, as in the next year international leisure trips are set to increase by an estimated 7% globally. The importance of travel is reinforced by the fact that four in five travelers are willing to make a sacrifice in another part of their life to ensure that they are able to take one.”
