Rafting in Sweden: A Summer Adventure

Buried deep within the DNA of every human is an urge to make things.

Not all of us actually build stuff, of course – and those of us that build don’t always build well. But the urge is still there, and here’s the perfect way to let it loose – captured in photos by Hipfel/Starck.

In the spirit of Tom Sawyer, new Irish tour operator Adventure Holidays has a five-day rafting expedition on Sweden’s River Klarälven. Customers arrive to find a big pile of logs and rope, assemble their own rafts (don’t worry, there’s an instructor at hand) and, once the construction is finished, cast off for a 50km trip through Sweden’s summer wilderness.

Over the next couple of days, rafters can take in the views, go swimming, find themselves wedged on sand banks and get to know one another (each raft takes up to six people). The trips are available June through August, and the price includes flights, car hire, tents, food and rafting equipment.
